Christmas Crochet Bauble Pattern

Easy Crochet Bauble Pattern

This pattern is designed with beginners in mind, using just a basic crochet stitch worked in the round. Alongside stitching up a project that you can hang on your tree with pride this holiday season, you’ll learn and master a number of techniques that will help you create beautiful toys in the Amigurumi style that continues to remain popular.

While making this Christmas crochet bauble pattern, you will learn how to increase your stitches, how to decrease stitches almost invisibly and how to add detail to your projects using embroidery thread.

This pattern was originally created to use at the Knitting & Stitching Show in Harrogate and was used in a workshop. The workshop attendees were such a great group of crafters and I feel lucky to have spent time with them stitching up these cute baubles.

Special Stitches

MC = magic ring

This advanced technique creates a perfect start for your projects that are worked in the round

  • With the yarn tail in your non hook hand, wrap the yarn around your hand bringing the working yarn (yarn attached to the ball) to the back, to create a cross on your palm and parallel bars on the top of your fingers
  • insert the crochet hook under the first parallel line and pick up the back strand
  • twist the hook to create a twist in the loop
  • yarn over the hook with the strand left unworked, bring through the loop on the hook
  • Remove fingers from the loop created, and untwist the tail from the ring created as required

dc2tog = double crochet decrease

  • Insert hook into next st, YO, bring up loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook into next st, YO, bring up loop (3 loops on hook), YO, pull through all 3 loops

inv dec = invisible decrease – recommended to use in place of dc2tog to prevent gaps in fabric

  • Insert hook into front loop of next 2 sts, YO, bring up loop (2 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops

Embroidering the Star

Using darning needle threaded with embroidery thread:

  • insert needle through space between stitches, bringing needle out for beginning of star
  • reinsert in stitch 4 rows down, pushing needle through toy stuffing, coming out where point of next star will begin
  • repeat for each star point leaving 2-3 sts between each point, ending where star began
  • securely tie a knot in ends of embroidery thread and push back into stuffing to hide

Create Hanging Loop – using darning needle threaded with embroidery thread, insert needle through top of bauble to create length of loop required, secure with a knot.
