Stitch up your own crochet popcorn stitch cushion with this free pattern to make textured. This pattern is with a long row repeat, using 2 different textured crochet stitches.
Adding texture to cushions is a great way to showcase your crochet skills around the house! Using 2 different colours of yarn in this project creates a unique way to highlights those popcorn stitches that feature in this project.
Alongside the popcorn stitches, this cushion also uses post stitches to create another section full of texture.
This intermediate level crochet pattern, is made easier to finished with the detailed video tutorial, walking you through all stitches and the colour changes too.
If you've ever crocheted a cushion and wondered why it looks flat and lifeless when you've finished your project, you have probably used the wrong cushion or pillow pad size.
I always recommend choosing a cushion pad that is 1-2 inches smaller than the finished size of the pillow cover you have crocheted.
For the cushion shown in the images, I used an 18" cushion pad, but for the cushion made in the video tutorial to correspond with the blanket pattern, I used a 16" pillow pad and it seems much more full and plump.
It is personal preference which size you choose, but for a more plump looking cushion that you can really lean into, reduce the pillow pad size down.

If you like to keep your homewares in harmony, and not overly mismatched, you can also find a corresponding blanket pattern to match this cushion pattern.
This cushion pattern is what allowed the Popalicious Blanket to be created - simply because I wanted a blanket to match and didn't have any of the original yarn left to make a blanket.
This cushion pattern was released way back in 2020, being one of my 1st ever designs to be released, and it's taken me almost 4 years to get back around to making the corresponding blanket.
This pattern can be made with any worsted/Aran weight yarn that like to work with. I originally made this cushion in 100% acrylic yarn, that is lovely and soft, but I had the yarn I used for my blanket in my stash for a number of years and wanted to use it up.
To crochet both the blanket and a new cushion, I used Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed that is a 20% wool/80% acrylic blend. It's not the softest yarn, as the wool content can be felt, but this yarn will be hard wearing and long lasting.
Both projects were completed using just 2 balls of the main colour and 1 ball of the contrasting colour - an estimated 2400 meters (2700yds) - not bad for a matching set!
