NEW FOR 2025 – COMMUNITY PROJECTS
The Fibre Arts Friends Group is very proud to collaborate with the Duston Parish Council on 2 projects during 2025 – everyone is invited to take part in both the projects, from the local community to those further afield, to help these projects reach completion.
Remembrance Poppies
Fibre Arts Friends will be working together to create a brand new element to the St. Luke’s Community Centre Poppy Cascade that is proudly displayed in the centre of Duston each year in remembrance of those who served our country in both the 1st and 2nd World Wars.
The display is to be expanded to feature 2 additional displays:
- To remember the animals who served
- To acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve and appreciate the freedoms that we enjoy today
How to Get Involved
To encourage the local community to join in with creating the display, 2 FREE crochet workshops will be held over the summer period where people can learn to crochet and learn how to crochet a poppy.
The crochet pattern to be used in the workshop will be available to view for free here, once published.
Your purple or white poppies created using any craft technique will be gratefully received (except paper poppies as the display will be outside); you can knit, sew, crochet or needle felt your poppies. Please send them or drop them off before 30th September 2025:

Granny Square Christmas Tree
Like many, we have been inspired by the beautiful Crochet Christmas Trees created around the world, most notably the Granny Square tree created by John Ossowski and Mike Beehm that was displayed at Little Falls Public Library in 2023 and again in 2024.
As a group, we are looking to create a similar sized tree, measuring almost 11 feet tall and will be creating an estimated 500 granny squares to complete the display.
How to Get Involved
To encourage the local and wider community to join us in creating our own Granny Square Christmas Tree, 2 FREE crochet workshops will be held in Spring, the 1st will be to learn to crochet and the 2nd will show you how to crochet a granny square.
You are welcome to submit your complete squares using any colours of Aran (size 4) yarn you have in your stash; ideally yarn made from acrylic. following the traditional granny square pattern with NO CHAIN 1 SPS between the granny stitches, and 2 chains in the corner spaces, made with 5 rounds of granny stitch.
You will find a detailed pattern and video tutorial for the design we will be using by clicking here – link will be activated in January 2025.
Please send them in or drop them off before 30th September 2025:
