Worsted Weight Shell Stitch Cardigan pattern

Fiona Field • Mar 01, 2022

A crochet cardigan pattern so we can step into Spring in style, whatever the weather has to throw at us! This worsted weight crochet cardigan creates a cosy cardigan with a slightly open fabric so whether it's warm or cold, you can be comfortable. The stylish 3/4 length sleeves and the wide neck line mean you can style this cardigan with any top.

Worsted Weight Shell Stitch Cardigan | Premium Crochet Patterns

The Wheelwright cardigan pattern creates a lightweight spring cardigan with an open crochet fabric, perfect whatever the spring weather might throw at us.

Whether it's bright and sunny or there's still a chill in the damp air, you can pop this cardigan over your outfit and you'll be as snug as a very stylish bug!

This spring style crochet cardigan features one of my favourite stitches; the open scallop stitch to creates a lightweight fabric but when worked up with worsted or Aran weight yarn, it is still cosy enough to keep you toasty on those cooler spring days.

I chose to work up my cardigan in my favourite Aran weight yarn, Paintbox Simply Aran in my favourite shades; Pistachio and Champagne White.

The colours are striped to break up the colour but you can opt to make a plain cardigan in one colour - I just love the placement of the stripes.

The design is kept up to date with a wide neckline which allows you to style this cardigan without the need to stick to a v-neck tee shirt or blouse.

The pattern uses an inset sleeve to prevent any excess material under the arms, keeping the relax fit, super comfy along with a stylish 3/4 length sleeve for a lighter weight finish to the project.

The pattern is suitable for intermediate crocheters and those beginners who are looking for a challenge as it is simply worked in 3 panels with the sleeves worked directly onto the seamed panels. This allows you to adjust the sleeve length as you wish while making.

There is a relaxed fit to the cardigan with a positive ease of 4 inches written into the patterns, making you able to layer this crochet cardigan with tee-shirts and thinner sweaters for extra warmth in the colder weather.

Fully Size Inclusive Crochet Cardigan Pattern

Like all my crochet garment patterns, this cardigan pattern is sized from XS-5XL with a detailed schematic included within the pattern so you can select the best possible size for your body.

The pattern also includes instruction for 3 different 3 different lengths:

  • Hip length - 23"
