What’s the best yarn to use for a crochet washcloth?

The best yarn to crochet a washcloth with is 100% cotton. The properties of cotton yarn are both absorbent and it can be machine washed easily.

Acrylic yarn is not absorbent enough to work well as a washcloth and wool, another natural fibre like cotton, can shrink or felt in hot water making it difficult to wash in a machine.

Some people may find that using 100% cotton may not suit their skin, and in those instances, choosing a cotton/acrylic blend will be softer when used on the skin.

What size should a crochet washcloth be?

A washcloth that is used to wash your face or body is usually 8″ by 8″ – in the UK this is known as a flannel.

When you take a peep online at the traditional size of a washcloth, linen manufacturers recommend a size of 12″ by 12″ for a washcloth. No doubt you’ve been in a hotel room and pondered over the choice of towels available and whether it’s a hand towel or a wash cloth.

This crochet washcloth pattern is based on the smaller size of 8″ square and designed for use on the body and face.

The textured stitches creates gentle exfoliation while using Aran weight (size 4) yarn or double stranding DK weight (size 3) yarn creates a cushion soft washcloth for a luxurious clean.
