Crochet Linen Stich Spiked Scarf

Create your own crochet linen stitch scart with this free crochet pattern. There is something very special about the linen stitch; how can such a simple stitch pattern using these basic crochet stitches can create the most beautiful crochet texture? This easy linen stitch scarf uses a simple combination of US single crochet stitches and a chain that creates a highly textured fabric to be created which is lightweight and airy but still dense enough to keep you warm.

As soon as I received my Furls Wander Acrylic Yarn, I just knew the colour combination would create the most amazing colour block crochet scarf.

The crochet linen stitch is also known as the Moss stitch and various other names too – but the linen stitch is a beginner friendly crochet stitch using the smallest crochet stitch, US single crochet (UK Double crochet).

The chains that are worked between the stitches, make the pattern really quick to work up and make the finished project light weight, but warm – espeically when using a worsted/Aran weight yarn.

If you’ve never tried Furls Wander Yarn, you can read my review of this new Furls yarn by clicking here.

I wanted to find a way that would allow me to use all the different colours of yarn included in the yarn pack that I bought from Furls and the Spike Stitch was the perfect choice.

It breaks up the colour blocks, adding more interest and seemed to almost introduce the next colour on the scarf.

Although the crochet pattern may look complicated, it’s designed with beginners to crochet in mind; perfect for beginners looking to make the most of the stitches they already know!

How to crochet the Linen Stitch

This pattern uses the linen stitch throughout. This stitch is made up of a US single crochet followed by a chain 1.

The next stitch is left unworked (skipped), which creates a space between the stitches.

On the return row, the single crochet is worked into the chain space created in the row before, not worked into the top of a stitch.

You will see it written in the pattern as :
