How to Double Treble Crochet (DTr) | Free Crochet Stitch Tutorial

The double treble crochet is a tall stitch which creates an open and loose style of crochet fabric. The fabric it creates works up quickly due to the tall height of the stitch – a great time saver when looking for a quick crochet stitch.

Much like the UK Treble crochet, the double crochet requires that you wrap the yarn around the hook before inserting the hook. For a Double Treble, you will wrap the yarn around the hook twice from front to back.

If you wanted to make an even taller stitch, you would simply increase the number of times that you wrap the yarn around the hook before inserting the hook into the stitch .

Keep Practicing!

To achieve a straight edge, you would skip the first stitch at the base of the chain and crochet into the next stitch, then  continue to work into each stitch across the row.

In the last stitch, work one double treble into the 4th chain to finish the row.

You can repeat row 2 as many times as you like to keep practicing the Double Treble crochet stitch (US treble crochet).

If you’re looking for another stitch to try, the Spike Stitch is another of my favourites and is a variation on the double crochet (single crochet) – Click here to try the stitch out or click the button below to see my other stitch tutorials.More Stitch Tutorials
