How to Crochet Offset Mesh Stitch
The Offset Mesh stitch pattern, sometimes referred to as Offset Filet Net, is a super easy 1 row repeat which creates a lightweight, fabric used in market bags, scarfs, afghans and market bags. How to Offset Mesh stitch | Free Crochet Stitch Tutorial
As I mentioned above, this is a simple crochet stitch pattern which is made using only US double crochet and chains – some of the first stitches you ever learn!
Just like the similar Mesh stitch, the stitch repeat is the same but to create the offset appearance, the stitches are worked into the chain spaces.
This stitch pattern can be used in such wide a variety of crochet projects and with the lacy fabric it creates, it’s perfect for those summer crochet makes!
This tutorial will show you how to crochet a the offset mesh using US Double crochet (UK Treble crochet) and chains making it perfect for projects you’d like to see working up quickly.

For this tutorial I used the following materials:
- 4mm Furls Streamline crochet hook
- LoveCrafts 100% Cotton DK in shade Tea Rose
You can use any yarn with the hook size as recommended on the yarn band.
How to crochet the Offset Mesh Stitch
The Offset Mesh stitch is worked in any multiple of 2 plus 6 chains for the foundation chain.
The 6 added to your chain creates the 1st block on your project.
- Chain multiples of 2 plus 6. In this tutorial we will make a chain of 24 to start our swatch.
- The 6 added to your chain creates the 1st block on your project.
The offset mesh fabric is created by working into the chain spaces from row 2 onwards which makes it quick work up!
Offset Mesh Stitch Pattern
This tutorial is written in US Terms: Chain 18 + 6 (24)
Ch24
Row 1: Dc in 6th Chain from hook, *Ch1, skip next ch, Dc,*. Repeat between * and * to last chain. Dc in last chain. Turn. (10 chain spaces and 1 Dc)
Ch24, Dc in 6th chain from hook, *Ch1, Skip 1 Ch, Dc in next*
Repeat between * and * to last stitch.
Do not chain 1 before last chain
Dc in last chain. Turn
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as Dc and Ch1), *working into Ch Sp Dc, Ch1*. Repeat between * and * to last chain space, Dc in 3rd ch. Turn. (10 chain spaces and 1 Dc)
Row 2: Ch4 (counts as Dc & Ch1)
Dc into chain space, *Ch1, Dc into next chain space**
Repeat between * and * to last chain space. Dc in last space,
In 3rd chain, Dc. Turn.
You can keep repeating row2 until your project has reached the size or length you’d like it to be!
Any project with an open fabric like the offset mesh would always benefit from a light blocking to ensure the edges stay straight and neat when wearing.
