The crochet wave stitch is the perfect stitch pattern to create a beautiful blanket or crochet cushion! You may also find this stitch pattern called a ripple or a chevron; for me, it's a wave. It's a crochet stitch pattern which a simple repeat that you will love and allows you to make the most of your colourful yarns!
The long wave crochet stitch is so popular to make baby blankets and other crochet homewares like the Wavy Bright Cushion Cover I designed. Waves are another crochet pattern that never loses its popularity and looks lovely when worked in yarn that are neutral or bold and bright in colour!
This tutorial will show you how to crochet a long wave which uses all the basic stitches including the US Treble Crochet (UK Double Treble crochet) in height order which creates wave in the pattern,
I used the Long Wave stitch in the Springtime Cushion Collection using 6 different coloured aran weight yarns to crochet a bright cushion for my lounge.
The long wave stitch pattern can also be used to make so many other crochet projects such as blankets, garments and even scarves! I can't wait to use this stitch pattern in another crochet design soon!

For this tutorial I used the following materials:
You can use any yarn with the hook size as recommended on the yarn band.
The Long Wave crochet stitch is worked in multiples of 14 stitches, plus 1 extra stitch and 1 for the foundation row
The wave is created by working stitches in height order, increasing and decreasing the height regularly across the row. There is a full video tutorial below to take you through how to crochet the Crochet Wave Stitch pattern.
This tutorial is written in US Terms:
Row 1: Chain 30, Sc in 2nd Ch from hook, *Sc in next stitch, HDc in next 2 stitches, Dc in next 2 stitches, Tr in next 3 stitches, Dc in next 2 stitches, HDc in next 2 stitches, Sc in next 2 stitches.* Repeat between * and * to end of the row. Turn.
Row 2: Ch1, Sc into each stitch across the row. Turn.
Optional - Change to contrasting colour
Row 3: Ch3, (counts as Tr), skip stitch under chain, *Tr in next stitch, Dc in next 2 stitches, HDc in next 2 stitches, Sc in next 3 stitches, HDc in next 2 stitches, Dc in next 2 stitches, Tr in next 2 stitches*. Repeat between * and * to end of the row. Turn.
Row 4: Ch1, Sc into each stitch across the row. Turn.
To continue making further rows, repeat Rows 1 to 4 until your project has reached the size or length you'd like it to be, changing colours as frequently as you'd like!
You can change every row, every 2 rows, every or 6 rows, or you can work the stitch pattern all in 1 colour to show off the texture the crochet wave creates.
