Triply Spiral Crochet Coaster | Free Crochet Pattern

This free spiral crochet coaster can be used to created with any colour combination and are a great way to use up some of your scrap yarn as you only need less than 20 yards of yarn to complete this fun project.

I used up some of the aran/worsted weight yarn I had left over from my Hodgepodge Granny Square Blanket.

Crochet Spiral Coaster Pattern

This pattern is worked differently than the traditional way to crochet a flat circle as used in the Honey & Crumpets Coaster.

All 3 colours are worked in each round – it’s much easier than it sounds. There is also a video tutorial to help you crochet this coaster, step by step.

Once you’ve worked up your coaster, why not try out the Free Spiral Granny Square pattern; this takes your spiral from a circle into a square – a funky addition to any granny square blanket.

Quick and Easy Spiral Crochet Coaster Pattern

Materials:

20 yds of Worsted yarn in 3 shades

I used Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran 100% acrylic (100g / 3.5oz, 184m / 201yds) in the following shades

A – Bubblegum Pink 250
B – Ballet Pink 252
C – Misty Grey 203
4mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Needle
Stitch markers

Abbreviations

US Terms (UK in brackets)

St(s) – Stitches

Ch – Chain

Sl st – Slip stitch

Sc (Dc) – Single Crochet (Double Crochet)

Hdc (htr) – Half couble crochet (half treble crochet)

This pattern in worked in a spiral without joining, using a stitch marker is highly recommended to mark 1st stitch of round and move up as worked.
Please be aware of colour change indications – the color changes are NOT made at the start of the round.
To change colour, pull up a large loop after last stitch (or secure with stitch marker), place loop of next colour on hook and continue in next stitch.

4″ circle

Gauge

7 rounds in spiral pattern = 4″ with 5mm crochet hook.

How to make a Spiral Crochet Coaster

Round 1: With A. ch 4, sl st to 1st to form ring, *ch 1 (does not count as st), 3 hdc in ring, place marker in working loop, join next colour. Repeat from * with B and C (3 hdc in each colour)

*Note – Each color will have marker placed in last st worked to hold, while continuing on with next color.

Round 2: With A, *2 hdc, in next 2, leave remaining st unworked, place marker in working loop, pick up next colour. Repeat from * with B and C. (4 hdc per colour)

*Note – Each color will have marker placed in last st worked to hold, while continuing on with next color.

Round 3: With A, *[hdc, 2 hdc in next] two tines, leave remaining st unworked. Repeat from * with B and C. (6 hdc, per colour)

Round 4: With A, *[hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next] two times, leave remaining st unworked. Repeat from * with B and C. (8 hdc, per colour)

Round 5: With A, *[hdc in next 3, 2 hdc in next] two times, leave remaining st unworked. Repeat from * with B and C. (10 hdc, per colour)

Round 6: With A, *[hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next] two times, leave remaining st unworked. Repeat from * with B and C. (12 hdc, per colour)

Round 7: With A, *hdc in next 2, sc in next 2, 2 sc in next, sc, sl st in next, leave remaining sts unworked. Repeat from * with B and C. (2 hdc, 2 sc, 1 sl st per colour)

Fasten off, weave in ends.
