How to Crochet With Faux Fur Yarn

Faux fur has become increasingly popular to add a touch of luxury to our coats and accessories, but many people feel it us a challenge to crochet with fur yarn.

There are 2 simple ways to make working with faux fur yarn easier:

  1. Work another strand of yarn alongside the faux fur yarn
  2. Use a slip stitch to attach the faux fur yarn to the top of the crochet fabric you’ve created

Like all new crochet techniques, practice makes perfect and the challenges faced when working with faux fur yarn was my inspiration behind the whole Elizabeth Faux Fur Crochet Collection.

The whole collection uses the same beginner friendly way to featured faux fur yarn in our projects.

I can’t believe its 2 years almost to the day that I hosted an online workshop to share this easy way to crochet with faux fur, and now you can learn it too as you create your own faux fur headband.

Not all faux fur is equal – I really love Sirdar Faux Fur Yarn

It’s consistently easy to use, super soft and the 50 gram balls of fur yarn are the perfect amount – no left overs here!

Not only is it well priced, you only need half a ball of faux fur yarn and the colour choices are fantastic.

The technique used in this pattern will see the faux fur attached using surface crochet which means you don’t need to work back into the fur yarn, keeping things really easy.

I used PaintBox Simply Chunky to use alongside the Sirdar Faux Fur Yarn, as the colours complement the faux fur so well!

Here are just some of my favourite colour combinations in the recommended yarns to help you select your choices and get started on your faux fur crochet accessories quickly:

  • Sirdar Faux Fur Yarn: Shade 402 – Seal & PaintBox Simply Chunky: Shade 305 Slate Grey
  • Sirdar Faux Fur Yarn: Shade 404 – Lynx & PaintBox Simply Chunky: Shade 309S oft Fudge
  • Sirdar Faux Fur Yarn: Shade 408 – Mink & PaintBox Simply Chunky: Shade 304 Stormy Grey
