I am warmly welcoming my very good friend Bernadine (B to everyone who knows her) from Me ‘n’ My Hook as a guest designer who is sharing her stunning mobius cowl pattern with us so that we can be styled and ready, whatever the weather may bring.

I could harp on about what a fan I am of her crochet patterns – they are some of the most stunning crochet projects, but her patterns are accessible for beginners to crochet, using simple stitches in various formations to create shawls, wraps and scarves that you’ll be proud to wear – all year round.

Without further Fan-Girling from me, I’ll hand over to the talented B:

Hawthorne free mobius scarf crochet pattern inspiration

Hawthorn’s are one of the birth flowers for May and the inspiration behind the name for this free mobius scarf pattern.  I wanted to make a lighter scarf than my usual Stella Moebius and decided to try and make an easy mobius scarf using a Sultan Deluxe Cake.

The finished result, Hawthorne, worked up way quicker than I expected for this free mobius scarf crochet pattern.  The stitch repeat used has some resemblance to the bud element of the Hawthorn and this design was originally made from a green – white ombre cake of yarn, another nod to the colour for this easy crochet mobius scarf pattern.

Yarn cake in use to create a twisted crochet cowl

I wanted to create something light and fun but also beginner friendly.  While the yarn for this design is a finer weight than what you might be used to, the stitches used are of standard construction, and the twist and staggered stitch pattern in this free crochet mobius scarf pattern adds a little bit of additional flair.

I decided to name one design per flower and month in 2022, and although released a little early, I am sticking with the original naming plan for this free mobius scarf crochet pattern.

Mobius Scarf Yarn and Materials

I originally designed this scarf with the idea of using a single cake of Sultan Deluxe and used the Siberian Jade which I received from a lucky bag.  Luckily for me, this design worked up quicker than I anticipated and I was able to make 2 versions from a single skein, bonus.  Sultan Deluxe is a 100% Cotton, 1000m fingering weight/2 yarn.   A single skein of that hand dyed yarn you don’t quite know what to do with, would be perfect for this pattern!

If you decide to use a gradient cake like Sultan, and  have never worked with such a fine yarn, check out my tips for working with 4 ply gradient yarn cakes here.

Crochet Mobius Cowl Pattern info & tips

Hawthorne is a free beginner mobius scarf crochet pattern.  While some would say that a mobius is a more advanced technique, I think it is achievable with a little bit of practise.  Also, if you are a new crocheter, then all the stitches and techniques are challenging so give it a go.  Once you have created your loop, the repeating pattern is established with a mixture of standard stitches.

There is a slight offset to the stitch pattern in the Hawthorn mobius scarf pattern, which adds an additional tweak in this reversible crochet pattern.
