Which yarn is best for crochet soles?

The yarn you choose to make your crochet sole with will depend on a couple of factors:

  • Do you want to make a soft crochet sole for slippers?
  • Do you want to make a harder wearing crochet sole for the outside of crochet slippers?

This sole pattern is recommended to be double layered, this will not only make the soles harder wearing when used for slippers, but will allow you to create a more sturdy outer sole if wanted.

The Best Yarn for Crochet Slipper Soles – Inner

For a soft inner to your soles that is easy care, you should chose 100% acrylic yarn that is washable. If the slippers will be worn inside only, you can use the same yarn for the inner and out of the soles – double layering the soles will make the slippers even cozier.

The yarn weight that is recommended to make soft and warm crochet soles is a size 5 chunky weight yarn.

The Best Yarn for Crochet Slipper Soles – Outer

As this pattern recommends joining 2 soles together to create a padded sole, you can simply make another sole in the same yarn as the inner or for a harder wearing outer sole, you can work up this pattern in twine or other rope-like yarn.

Check the thickness of the twine is a similar thickness to bulky weight yarn used for the inner and the pattern will recreate the same size.

Using a twine or rope-like yarn will help prevent the soles of your slippers being a slip hazard. Click here for more ways to make crochet slippers not slippery.
