Per Coaster – 15m/17yds Chunky (Bulky) yarn in 3 colours

Finished Size:

  • 5 inches (12cm) across.

Tension

14 stitches and 12 rows = 4in (10cm) using 6mm crochet hook and Dc. Use a larger or smaller crochet hook to obtain the correct tension.

Stitch Abbreviations: US terms (UK in brackets)

Sc (Dc)       Single Crochet (Double Crochet)

2Sc (2Dc)  Work 2 Double Crochet into same stitch (Work 2 Single Crochet into same stitch)

Pattern Notes:

  • Whatever your skill level with crochet, I always recommend reading through this pattern before beginning. Get in touch if you need any help completing the pattern.
  • This pattern is worked in the round.
  • Ch1 at the beginning of the rows DOES NOT count as a stitch. Work your 1st stitch of the round into the same stitch as the chain.

How to Crochet a Coaster for Beginners

With Colour 1, Make a magic ring. (Alternatively, Ch4 and Sl St into 1st chain made to make a ring)

Round 1: Into centre of ring, Dc 6 times. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (6)

Make a magic Ring.

Single crochet 6 times into the centre.

Slip Stitch to top of first Sc to join the round

Rnd 2: Ch1. 2Dc into each St around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (12)

Work into stitch under chain 1, Work 2 Single crochet into each stitch around

Slip Stitch to top of 1st Sc made to join round.

Rnd 3: Change to Colour 2. Ch1. Into same St as Ch, *Dc, 2Dc in next St*. Repeat between * and * around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (18)

How to crochet a coaster

Rnd 4: Ch1. Into same St as Ch, *Dc, Dc, 2Dc in next St*. Repeat between * and * around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (24)#

Rnd 5: Change to Colour 3. Ch1, into same St as Ch, *Dc into next 3 Sts, 2Dc in next St*. Repeat between * and * around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (30)

Rnd 6: Ch1. Into same St as Ch, *Dc into next 4 Sts, 2Dc in next St*. Repeat between * and * around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (36)

Rnd 7: Change to Colour 2. Ch1. Into same St as Ch, *Dc into next 5 Sts, 2Dc in next St*. Repeat between * and * around. Sl St to top of 1st St to join. (42)

Rnd 8: Change to Colour 3. Ch1. Into same St as Ch, *Dc into next 3 Sts, 2Dc in next St, Dc into next 3 Sts*. Repeat between * and * around.

Join the last round using an Invisible join. (Click here to see how to complete an invisible join). Fasten off and weave in ends!
