Welcome to another crochet tutorial with CozyRosy UK. Today I'm going to be showing you how to crochet
0:05
your very own giant easter egg using blanket yarn. Now this super chunky yarn works up really quickly
0:12
and makes some super squishy projects. Normally you wouldn't get to see my face before we start
0:18
a project but this thing is too big for my craft table so I'm going to start by talking to you here
0:24
Now before we get started, before I show you the materials, please go ahead and hit that subscribe
0:28
button and of course the notification bell so that you never miss out on another one of my crochet
0:32
tutorials again. So let's gather those materials that we need and we're going to be using Bernat
0:39
blanket yarn, this is baby blanket sparkle and three different shades. Now you can of course work
0:45
your egg in one shade or you can do stripes as we're going to do in this tutorial, it's completely
0:49
your choice. Now the recommended hook size for this pattern is going to be an eight millimeter
0:54
crochet hook which does correspond with the weight of the yarn so this is a super bulky or
0:59
super chunky yarn a size six and we're using three shades so we have the rose glow sparkle
1:06
moonlight sparkle and this lovely cream that's a cream that is definitely a green i've got a green
1:13
color here which is seafoam sparkle when i saw these colors in the shop i just immediately thought
1:19
to myself oh my god it's going to make a giant easter egg so that is exactly what we're going to
1:24
make today. So this is a really simple beginner pattern using only single crochets and single
1:29
crochet increases and decreases. Now these are US terms, I'm going to use US terms throughout this
1:35
pattern just to keep things really simple. So to start on this project we're going to make either
1:42
a magic ring or a chain four and create a ring. So I'm going to do the beginner version which is
1:47
going to make a chain four and create a ring. So add your slip stitch if you're not making a magic
1:53
ring to your hook and then we're going to chain four. So one, two, three and four. Now if you're
2:04
not familiar with this super bulky or big big yarn like this you will notice that I'm actually holding
2:10
my tension a little bit looser because this yarn is so big it moves a lot quicker through our fingers
2:17
Once we've got our chain four, we're going to insert our hook under that first chain that we made right next to that tail, just under that top loop there, and slip stitch
2:31
So just bring that straight through the loop on your hook. And you'll see that we've created a ring that we can work into
2:39
You may see a space underneath where you slip stitched. Try to avoid working into that
2:43
We want to work directly into the middle. So going into round one, we're going to chain one and then insert our hook into the middle
2:52
of that ring, not into that top hole. And we're going to work eight single crochets into the centre
3:00
So that's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and a final one for number eight
3:30
So you can see we've got quite a lot of stitches into that ring there. And we want to slip stitch into the first single crochet that we made
3:38
So we started with a chain one, which is this one here. So one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
3:47
So we're going to insert our hook under both loops of that single crochet. Just bringing my yarn over the front of that chain that we made earlier
3:57
And then we just slip stitch to join. And that's round one. Nice and easy. I'm going to get some more yarn out because I use quite a lot in this pattern, believe it or not
4:09
So going into round two, we're going to chain one. Now our chain ones in this pattern do not count as a stitch
4:17
So we're going to work directly back into that stitch that we slip stitched into
4:22
I'm going to increase into every stitch around. So we're going to double our stitch count from six
4:27
No, from eight to sixteen. So you insert your hook, yarn over, bring a loop up, pull through two and then we do the same into where we've just worked
4:40
So we're placing two single crochets into each stitch around. That's one
4:47
There's two. Remember working two each time, so that's two and four
4:53
You'll see that I'm using my fingers to make sure that I'm going underneath the top loop, both of the loops of my stitch
4:59
and then we're just working two single crochets into each stitch around. So work the rest of this
5:05
round placing two single crochets into each stitch and I'll meet you at the end where our stitch
5:11
count should be 16. So it's easy to be fooled that thinking you need to work another stitch here
5:19
but just try to resist working into that one. Check your stitch count because that's your slip
5:24
stitch from the previous round and there's my chain one. So at the end of round two we're going
5:30
to insert our hook again under that first stitch of our round and slip stitching to join. So at the
5:38
end of round two you should have a stitch count of 16. Going into round three we're going to chain
5:45
one and in this one we're going to single crochet into the first stitch of our round and then two
5:53
single crochets into the next so that's two so we've got one two and three we're
6:00
going to repeat that the whole way around so we work one single crochet and then
6:04
in the next stitch we work two single crochets for another increase
6:13
so there we work one single crochet and then the next stitch two single crochets
6:21
really important to make sure that your hook's going back into that same stitch
6:25
you can also see that it's almost starting to hide our next stitch so it's
6:30
tempting to work into that one but just need to make sure you're working into
6:34
every stitch so one single crochet into one stitch and then two single crochets
6:40
into the next so repeat that all the way around and I'll meet you back ready
6:47
for us to do round four. So you should finish round three with a stitch count of 24 ending with a double
6:57
crochet in your last stitch. Here you can see my slip stitch and my chain one and once again we're
7:03
going to join the round by slip stitching into that first single crochet that we made
7:06
Going into round four we are going to chain one and then in this round
7:21
we going to work one single crochet into the next two stitches and then we work our increase one and two into the same stitch so we got one single crochet
7:35
one single crochet and then into third stitch we're working two single crochets
7:42
so again we're going to increase in this round but we're only increasing in every third stitch
7:50
so repeat that around by working one single crochet, one single crochet, missed half the stitch there
7:58
and then two single crochets into that third stitch and at the end of round four you should have a stitch count of 32
8:07
at the end of round four you should again finish with an increase in the last stitch
8:19
there's my slip stitch and my chain one and we're just going to insert our hook once again
8:25
and slip stitch to join into the top of that first single crochet just going to pull my
8:33
tail here just to make that there we go that looks a bit more normal doesn't it
8:37
one two three four rounds already and we should still have a stitch count of 32 at the end of
8:45
round four. Going into round five we are going to chain one and this time we're going to single
8:53
crochet into the next three stitches and then we work our increase. So that's one single crochet
9:03
one single crochet, one single crochet and then two single crochets into the fourth stitch
9:08
for this round so one single crochet one single crochet one single crochet
9:18
and then our increase into that fourth stitch and we're going to repeat that the whole way round
9:25
for if you do that increase i'll forget and we're going to do that all the way around for round five
9:32
so that we will end this round again with a increase in the last stitch and we should have
9:38
stitch count of 40 by the end of this round. So at the end of round five you
9:46
should have a stitch count of 40. So one, two, three, four, five and we should have
9:51
a stitch count of 40. Once again we're going to slip stitch to that first single
9:56
crochet of the round and then we're going to go into round six. Now this is
10:02
where our increases change. Now obviously we don't want to just keep getting
10:06
rounder and rounder because that's not going to give us an egg shape that will just give us a
10:09
lovely big basket so instead for round six we're going to chain one and then we single crochet
10:15
into the next nine stitches so that's one two three four five six
10:36
seven eight and nine and then we increase into that tenth stitch around so one and two into the same stitch
10:55
and we're going to repeat that all the way around so we single crochet into the next
11:05
nine stitches one two three four five six seven eight and nine then we increase one and two
11:35
into the same stitch. We repeat that twice more to bring us back around to where we join and that's
11:42
going to increase this round by four. So we're going to go from 40 to a stitch count of 44 in
11:48
round six and we are going to end once again on a increased stitch. So work around and I'll meet
11:55
you back at the end of round six. So at the end of round six you should have a stitch count of 44
12:03
and we're going to slip stitch to that first single crochet we made in round six to join
12:08
and go straight into round seven. So we're going to chain one and we're going to work
12:14
five single crochets across the next five stitches. So one single crochet in the next
12:20
five stitches. That's one, two, three, four and five. Then we're going to increase into
12:28
the next stitch and then we're going to work ten single crochets one two three
12:42
four five six seven eight nine
12:58
and ten and then we increase again so we work those two single crochets into that stitch there we work a further
13:15
10 single crochets so that's one two three four five six seven eight nine
13:38
9 and 10 and then we work an increase into that next stitch
13:46
and then we're going to work across one single crochet into the next 10 stitches
14:08
work an increase into the next stitch and then we single crochet into the next five stitches. So that should give us a stitch count of
14:35
48 at the end of round 7. So we're going to slip stitch to the first double crochet that we made
14:48
And this is our last round we're going to be going into, into round 8 in our first colour
14:53
This is going to create the base of our egg You can quite see it but it is starting it will start to flare up Okay kept my tail in there so I know where the wrong side is of my work
15:06
So going into round eight we're going to chain one. If I haven't already, I had not. Why did I? Let me do that again. I hate to put an extra
15:19
chain one in when i don't need it so we slip stitch to join i'm gonna tighten that a bit
15:25
now that looks a bit tight there we go and then chain one and in round eight very simply we're
15:33
going to single crochet in the next 11 stitches and then we're going to increase so one two three
15:43
10 and 11 and then we increase and then we do the work the next 11 stitches with single crochet
15:58
and we repeat that all the way around by working 11 single crochets and increasing into the next
16:07
stitch so we will end this round with a increase in the last stitch so keep working around and I'll
16:14
meet you at the end of round eight. So at the end of round eight you should have a stitch count of
16:21
52. Now we're going to change colour going into round nine so to make it almost seamless because
16:27
we're actually chaining in this as opposed to working in a spiral I'm just going to gently pull
16:32
out the last stitch that I made and pop that loop back onto my hook and then I'm going to insert my
16:39
hook as if I'm working that last stitch around eight again. So I have those two loops on my hook
16:46
Going to grab my new colour and just place that over my hook leaving a nice tail that we can weave
16:55
in later and we're just going to bring that through and then pull on the pink yarn just to tighten
17:02
that stitch a little bit and that allows us to create our slip stitch with our new colour
17:09
and work over those two tails so we slip stitch in our colour change give all the colours a bit
17:17
of a tighten just so you can see that it just finishes that last stitch in our new colour
17:23
so as I said we should still have a stitch count of 52 at the end of round eight and we're going
17:31
into round nine so this is when our increases slow right down so for round two we're going to
17:39
sorry round two round nine we're going to start with our chain one so once we've chained one we
17:45
are going to single crochet into the next 26 stitches so work around then working one single
17:55
crochet into each stitch until you get all 26 stitches completed. So I've done one, I'll meet
18:01
you around there. So once you've done your 26 stitches we are then going to work our increase
18:10
working those two single crochets into the next stitch and we simply repeat that around. You can
18:17
see that we're pretty much halfway across here so we're going to work the next 26 stitches and then
18:23
finish with a double crochet in our last stitch. So I'll meet you back around at the end of round
18:30
nine and by this point our stitch count should be 54. So as I just mentioned you should now have a stitch count of 54 for the end of round nine
18:44
Now there are a couple of options as to what you do for your colours in from now on. You can continue
18:49
to work every like two rows in each colour or you can follow along with the row that I'm going to do
18:55
next so this is going to be alternating between colour a and colour b so we're going to start the
19:01
next round which is round 10 with our our last colour we're working in which is of course colour
19:08
one so we're going to slip stitch first of all to the top of that first oh first single crochet
19:14
of the round. Oh my goodness me, what have I done there? So we're going to slip stitch to join, pretend I didn't do that
19:23
And then we're going to chain one. So just like we did that colour change at the end of
19:29
round seven, we're going to start by inserting our hook and bringing that loop up. So instead
19:37
of finishing our stitch as you would normally in colour B, we're going to pick up colour A
19:44
from behind and just finish that stitch in colour A. So then we insert our hook into the next stitch
19:55
bring up a loop, put that colour to one side and then yarn over and pull through with our first
20:04
colour. You can see that that stitch looks a bit big so you can just tighten that by pulling your
20:11
colour A. I'm going to repeat that the whole way around so there are no increases in round 10
20:16
but I'm going to be changing colour every single stitch by just finishing the round that stitch in the previous colour
20:29
To avoid getting tangled move the yarns in the same way each time so for instance I'm keeping my
20:37
pink yarn to the back and bringing my white yarn to the front. You need to adjust your stitch sizes
20:47
you can just pull on either of the working yarns and we're just going to work one single crochet
20:53
into each stitch around, changing colour in every stitch because it creates a really nice
21:01
detail between the two well between all the color changes as well
21:07
so keep working around you can choose to continue all the way around in color b
21:11
or you can replicate these alternating colors as i'm doing in this round here
21:22
so keep working around and i'll see you back at the end of round 10 and your stitch count should
21:28
Still we're the same with 454 stitches. So at the end of round 10 you should finish working with your original yarn from round
21:41
that we started the round with which should be colour B. So we can just slip stitch straight in
21:47
I'm just going to double check that I have worked yes I have worked that last stitch and we should slip stitch into our first single crochet that we made
21:58
make sure your stitch is nice and tight there we go and that is the end of round
22:05
10 we should still have a stitch count of 54 so let's go on to round 11
22:13
so for round 11 we are going to work 26 we're going to work single crochets into the next 26
22:21
stitches and then increase work a further 26 single crochets and then increase again in our last stitch before we join our round So work all the way around working one single crochet into each stitch for 26 stitches and then
22:38
increase and then repeat that round to the end so you've got another 26 single crochets and then
22:45
you can increase and I'll meet you back at the end of round 11 ready for round 12 but we're going to
22:52
change colours at the end of round 11. So wait for me at your last stitch on round 11
23:02
So at the end of round 11, I'm halfway through my last stitch and I'm just going to be changing
23:11
to my third colour or colour C. So I'm completing my last stitch of round 11 with that colour change
23:18
i'm going to tighten my other color put my tail to the back and then i can complete my slip stitch
23:26
to join this round in my new color ready for round 12 no round 13 i said that with such confidence as
23:37
well oh no it is round 12 let me double check so one two three four five six seven eight nine ten
23:44
11 round 12. I was correct. So we should still have our stitch count of 56 and we're going to work
23:51
round 12 in our third colour. So we chain one and we're simply going to work one single crochet
23:57
into each stitch around. So our stitch count at the end of round 12 will remain the same
24:04
So we should still have 56 stitches at the end of this round as well. I'm just going to make sure I
24:11
get these yarn colours tangled because we're going to change colours at the end of round 13
24:20
We're not going to have much of this colour yet but we'll have more of it later I promise
24:25
because it's a really nice colour. It's quite bold but I really like it and it's really an eastery
24:31
colour as well. So keep working one single crochet into each stitch around and I'll meet you back
24:37
ready for round 13 which is nice and easy. So at the end of round 12 we should have worked
24:43
the whole way round in our colour C or our third colour choice and we're just slip stitching to join
24:50
and round 13 is exactly the same as round 12. So we're just going to work one single crochet
24:57
into each stitch around continuing in colour B. Oh this is colour C for me sorry. So keep working
25:04
around and I'm going to meet you ready for round 14. Now I'll meet you at the last stitch again
25:09
because we're changing back to colour, changing back our colours and then we're going to start
25:15
decreasing. So by this point you can see you've got the base of your egg which is nice and flat
25:21
so it can sit all on its own and already we're building up the sides of our egg. So keep working
25:27
each one single crochet into each stitch around and I'll meet you back for the last stitch and to
25:32
color change at the end of round 13. So at the end of round 13 we should still have a stitch count of
25:39
56. I'm halfway through my last stitch of round 13 and I'm going to change back to color A
25:47
So I just literally pop that color over my hook. I haven't fastened off so I'm just going to make
25:53
sure it's not too tight where I'm slip stitching because move that to the back and then we can
26:01
slip stitch to join because if that yarn's too tight it's going to pull the project in the
26:06
direction we don't want it to go. We have a little pull there and we're just going to double check
26:11
that we don't have too much tension on this because you can see if it's too tight it's going
26:16
to change the shape of our project. So you can move colour B out of the way
26:22
somewhat not completely but a little bit. I'm moving back to colour A. Come back colour A
26:29
and we're going into round 14. So we're going to chain one and this is the round that we start to
26:37
work our decreases and we're going to work back from where we were. So we start by working one
26:42
single crochet into the first 26 stitches. So once we've worked those 26 single crochets we're going
26:53
to work an invisible decrease which is an alternative to a single crochet two together
27:00
so you can insert your hook into the front loop of your next stitch and then again into the front
27:09
loop of the next stitch again so instead a traditional single crochet is you insert the hook
27:15
bring a loop up insert the hook bring a loop up and then pull through all three loops and that's
27:22
perfectly fine it's not going to be that obvious in this project which is kind of traditionally
27:27
used in amigurumi um this alternative sorry is the one that's used in amigurumi and just by going
27:34
through those front two loops only as you can see i've kind of gone through one and then i'm having
27:40
to turn my hook almost upside down just to pick up that front loop so then it looks like we've got
27:46
the two loops of any one of our stitches. We yarn over, bring our loop up as normal, yarn over
27:53
pull through two. So that's how you do the invisible decrease. Now I'm going to work an invisible
27:59
decrease for all of my decreases on this pattern because as you can see it combines those two
28:05
stitches whilst remaining looking like a normal stitch. We then have to work into the next stitch
28:12
so it's important that you recognise that you've already worked into this stitch, which is here
28:16
because that's where your decrease was. And we're going to single crochet again into the next 26 stitches
28:24
and then we'll repeat that again at the end of this round. So I'll meet you at the end
28:32
So when we've reached our last two stitches, we're going to work either a single crochet, two together
28:40
or you can work that invisible decrease. I'm going to be doing an invisible decrease
28:46
so by looking at my stitch I go in under the front loop only
28:50
and then I'm going into the front loop of the next stitch and I'm turning my hook just to pick
28:58
that front loop up she says. There we go and then we're going to yarn over to bring up our loop
29:05
and complete our single crochet as normal. So then going into round 15
29:11
of course we've gone to slip stitch to join to our first stitch
29:17
Slip stitch, chain one, there's our stitch. And we're continuing in colour A
29:23
And for round 15, we're going to work into the next 25 stitches
29:29
working one single crochet into the next 25 stitches and then working your decrease stitch
29:35
So to work that single crochet decrease you can either yarn over, pull up, insert into the next stitch and bring a loop up
29:43
or we can work that invisible decrease across these next two stitches again
29:48
So we insert just through the front loop of the first stitch, and then pick up the first loop of the next stitch, which I promise
29:59
It's easier with practice. Showing this in a good light, aren't I? Literally
30:09
Right, there we go. Use one's nails if we must. Then we yarn over to bring our loop up to complete our single crochet as normal
30:18
So we're going to carry on working one single crochet into the next 25 stitches again
30:25
before completing that last single crochet two together or an invisible decrease across the last
30:33
two stitches of round 15. So keep working along I'll meet you at the end so we can work that
30:39
decrease together. So at the end of round 15 we're going to work our invisible decrease again
30:46
so we pick up that front loop from each of the next two stitches we yarn over and bring a loop up
30:53
but we're going to change colours so we go into round 15 working colour B or your second colour
31:00
so again this is quite far down in my project that I'm picking this up from
31:04
so I'm just bringing it up to the height of my row and I'm going to pull on my
31:09
last yarn that I've worked just to tighten that stitch a little bit
31:14
and then I can slip stitch using my new colour for the round
31:20
There we go. Wonderful! So we're going into round 16 and we're working this in our colour B
31:29
And in this row we're going to work one single crochet into the next 12 stitches
31:36
So once we've worked those first 12 single crochets, we work our invisible decrease or our single crochet two together
31:44
by picking up those two front loops of the next two stitches
31:48
and working our invisible decrease. Then we're going to single crochet across the next 24 stitches
32:00
Once you've worked those next 24 single crochets, we're then going to do another decrease
32:06
In my case, I'm going to be doing the invisible decrease, so picking up those front two loops
32:10
yarning over bringing a loop up and then yarn over pull through two and that should leave us
32:17
12 single crochets or 12 stitches left to work one single crochet in to end
32:24
round 16 so this is my last stitch so my 12th single crochet from the last group and i'm going
32:34
slip stitch to join at the moment our stitch count should still be 50 so we're decreasing
32:39
by just two stitches per round. If I lay this a little bit flatter you can see, you can't see yet
32:47
but I promise it's going to slowly decrease into an egg shape. So this is, we're going to repeat
32:54
this colour change round here. So I'm going to work one stitch in colour A and one stitch in
33:01
colour B but we also have to do decreases too. So a bit of a complicated round but we'll do this
33:08
whole round together and get us all completed. So we start round 17 with a single crochet
33:16
and then we're going to insert our hook, bring up our loop to work our first single crochet
33:23
but we're going to change to colour A. So I've got my two loops from my first single crochet
33:31
I'm going to change and finish that stitch in colour A and then I'm going to insert the hook
33:39
into the next stitch, bring my loop up and put my colour A to the back and finish the stitch
33:47
with colour B. Insert, pull a loop up in colour B, bring it to the front, pull through with colour A
33:57
and we just repeat that the whole way along. You will notice I'm not working
34:02
over the colour changes because that's where it can get really tangled. So for
34:11
your decreases on this stitch we're going to work 23 single crochets and then
34:16
we're going to decrease whilst we change colours. So one, two, three, four, five. So
34:22
keep an eye on your stitch count and when you get to stitch number 24 you're ready to do your decrease
34:31
So this is stitch number 23 for me, so I've changed back to my colour A
34:41
and then I'm going to work my decrease. So I've already worked into this stitch here
34:46
so I'm inserting under the next two stitches just under my front loops
34:52
I'm yarning over, but then to complete my stitch I'm going to change to colour 1, just
35:04
so we can continue with these colour changes all the way along. The good news is we have
35:09
23 single crochets to go and then we can do our next decrease in the last two stitches
35:16
So keep working around, working your single crochets and I'll meet you at the end of this
35:20
we've got two stitches left and we will work that last decrease together. So I've reached my last two
35:28
stitches in round 17 and I'm just working my invisible decrease but we're not going to change
35:35
colour on this stitch because we're going to continue on into round 18 with colour B
35:42
So we just slip stitch to join and then we are ready to continue on to round 18
35:52
So we chain one and then we single crochet into the next 11 stitches
35:59
Once we work those 11 single crochets we work our decrease stitch, our visible decrease
36:06
over the next two stitches. We then work one single crochet into the next 22 stitches
36:17
And once we've worked those 22 stitches, we work our next decrease stitch by picking up
36:26
those front two loops, yarning over and completing our stitch. And that will leave 11 single crochets to work to the end of our row
36:36
We're going to be changing colour at the end of round 17 so I'll meet you at the end for our colour change
36:45
So we get to the last stitch and complete the first half of our single crochet and we are going to be changing this time back to our colour C Oops I all tangled up over here I got my first two loops of halfway through that single crochet
37:07
I'm just going to bring through colour C, making sure it's not, it's a bit harder to do with this angle now
37:13
not too tight on the inside here. So you want it to be, you can literally take your hook out and just make sure it's not too tight
37:20
pull on your colour B to tighten that stitch and then we can slip stitch to join
37:30
do that first single crochet of round 18 and we are ready to work round 19
37:42
going into round 19 with our third colour, so colour C, we're going to start with a
37:48
chain one and in every row now we're going to be continuing to decrease so that we create that
37:54
conical kind of top of the egg shape. So in round 19 we're going to single crochet into the next 21
38:02
stitches then work our decrease, work a further 21 single crochets and then do our decrease
38:10
So continue around, working your first 21 single crochets then your invisible decrease
38:18
Don't work two stitches into the same stitch like I just done and I will meet you at the end of
38:26
round 19 so we can work round 20 together. So I have my last two stitches remaining in round 19
38:35
and I'm just working my invisible decrease to complete this round and we should have a total
38:42
stitch count at the end of round 19 of 44. Going into round 20 we're going to slip stitch and
38:49
continue working in colour C and we're going to chain one and then in round 20 we're going to
38:56
single crochet into the next 10 stitches before we then decrease
39:26
Then we work our invisible decrease across the next two stitches and then we work the next 20 single crochets. So the next 20 stitches we're going to work a
39:43
single crochet into. Work our next decrease and then we are going to work the last 10 stitches
39:52
as normal. At the end of round 20 we are going to change colours again so I'll meet you at the end
39:57
of round 20. So work your first 10 single crochets decrease, 20 single crochets decrease and I'll meet
40:05
you at the end on our last stitch of round 20. So I've reached my last stitch of round 20 and
40:15
I'm just pausing here because we're going to change colours and we're changing back to
40:19
to colour A, so I'm just going to loop that over and bring it through that last stitch
40:28
gently tighten, making sure there's a little bit of movement on that stitch there, and
40:35
then we can slip stitch to join, slip stitch chain one, and then we can slip stitch to join
40:40
into that first single crochet in our new colour for round 21. So we're just going to work round 21
40:50
in colour A. At the end of round 20 you should have a stitch count of 42 and then we are going
40:58
to go into round 21 with a chain one and for this round you may be working out the stitch repeat here
41:04
we're going to work 19 single crochets, so one single crochet into the next 19 stitches
41:11
and then we're going to work our decrease, single crochet across the next 19 stitches
41:17
and work our decrease. Now we're going into round 22 in the same colour, so I'll meet you at the end
41:23
of round 22 and we're still going to be working in our first colour. So keep working around and
41:29
I'll meet you ready for round 22. Just a quick reminder in case I haven't said it enough
41:35
I just like to make sure we're going to be doing single crochet in the first 19
41:39
decrease 19 decrease and I'll meet you at the end of this round
41:46
So at the end of round 21 you should have a stitch count of 40 and we're going to slip stitch
41:55
to that first stitch again to join. It always looks like you've missed that stitch doesn't it
42:03
but I promise I haven't. I'll check my stitch count. So you should still have a stitch count
42:08
of 40 at the end of round 21. Going into round 22 we're carrying on with our colour A and the rows
42:18
are getting much shorter and much quicker to do. The rounds are getting much quicker so we're
42:22
we're getting there I promise. You can see the shape is really starting to kind of come in now
42:28
for the top of the egg. I can't show you all of it without really zooming out but we're going to
42:33
go into round 22 and at this point we're going to work one single crochet into the first nine
42:40
stitches. So once we've worked those first nine single crochets we then work that invisible
42:46
decrease and then we single crochet into the next 18 stitches and then we work our next
42:56
invisible decrease all the way around to the end of the round
43:03
We're changing colours going into round 23, so I'll meet you for that colour change at
43:07
the end of this round of 22. the end of round 22 just completing my invisible decrease and i'm changing to
43:17
oops color b i'll bring it up around that way actually because changing onto color b that's
43:25
not color b where did it go there it is there's kind of b and we're still attached i've not cut
43:31
any of these yarns yet i am having to untangle them every now and again i'm just going to check
43:35
because that feels a little bit tight there we go just so it's not pulling up the inside of that
43:40
project so you can see all those colours working their way up there. Wonderful. I flip this
43:48
back over because it's getting rather large, which is what you want in a giant Easter egg
43:53
isn it And then we are ready to slip stitch to join There my previous slip stitch chain one and we just going to slip stitch into that first single crochet that we made in round 22
44:04
so at the end of round 22 you should have a stitch count of 38 and we're going to go into round three
44:12
where we're working in colour b so a nice easy one we're going to single crochet in the next 17
44:19
stitches then we're going to work our invisible decrease before we go on to work another 17
44:26
single crochets and end this round in colour B as we're working now and then we're going to do
44:37
the alternate colour round again. So keep working around 17 single crochets, a single crochet two
44:43
together or invisible decrease, 17 single crochets and then decrease in that last stitch and I'll meet
44:49
you at the end of round 23. So at the end of round 23 you should have a total of 36 stitches. I've
44:58
changed my angle ever so slightly because the egg is getting rather large which is the point of
45:03
making a giant egg but I want to make sure you can see as much as possible. So as we've done on
45:08
all the previous rounds we're going to slip stitch to join and then chain one. Going into round 24
45:15
we're going to work this alternating colour round again so just as we did in round 10 we are going to
45:23
chain one and then we're going to single crochet into the next eight stitches, alternating these
45:30
colours as we go. So that's one, two, three, and then eight. Then we work our invisible
45:54
decrease. So we just go through those front two loops but we finish in our colour change
46:08
And then we're going to work one single crochet into the next 16 stitches
46:12
continuing to alternate the colours all the way around. Work our next invisible decrease before
46:18
we work the last eight stitches and we should end on the colour we've started on which is colour B
46:24
So I'll meet you at the end of round 24. So at the end of round 24 you should now have a stitch count of 34
46:38
And we're getting close to having to stuff. So I'm going to start stuffing my egg now
46:44
You'll probably be able to fit about... I just managed to pull the whole ball of stuffing out
46:51
I'm just moving all my ends out of the way and you probably fit the first 200 grams pretty much
46:57
into your egg. I'm going to go ahead and stuff mine not too firmly but making sure that it's
47:05
nice and evenly distributed throughout my egg and then we're going to go on to round 25
47:15
Notice that I'm kind of spacing out and pushing it into the bottom because we want it to get that
47:20
nice feel. You won't get the total egg shape just yet, don't worry, even with your stuffing in
47:27
it's going to be a bit but already it looks more egg-like than before
47:32
Just push some of that stuffing out of the way so we don't trap it as we're working
47:39
Good, good, there we go. So as we continue to work now our decreases are going to really cinch in the top of this egg
47:49
so we're gonna have to be careful that we don't... I've just managed to tangle that yarn
47:53
I'll deal with it later so we're going to continue on to round 25 nice easy round round 25 is always
48:03
nice to get a breather after those colour changes so into round 25 we are going to chain one after
48:12
slip stitching to join and then we have an easy round of 15 single crochets before we decrease
48:19
and we work a further 15 single crochets and decrease in the last stitch so work your 15
48:30
singles decrease 15 singles and decrease along those last two stitches and I'll meet you at the
48:35
end of round 25 ready to change colours again. So at the end of round 25 we're going to change to
48:47
colour C. So back to for me, in this case the lovely green. Just going to tighten that up
48:53
put that to the back and then I can slip stitch to join to complete this row round. I don't know
49:00
why I keep saying the word row, make sure that slip stitch isn't too loose. There we go
49:05
Oh look at the egg, it's going really well! So at the end of round 25 you should have a total of 32 stitches
49:17
And going into round 26 we're going to chain one and then we're going to single crochet
49:24
into the first 7 stitches and then we can work our first decrease
49:34
We're then going to single crochet into the next 14 stitches before working our next decrease
49:44
and then finally single crochet in the last 7 stitches. Round 27 is continuing in colour C, so I'll meet you at the end of round 26 going into
49:54
round 27. So at the end of round 26 you should have a stitch count of 30
50:01
we're going to slip stitch to join and then we're going to go straight into round 27
50:08
So for round 27 we chain one and then we single crochet into the next 13 stitches before we
50:17
decrease and then another 13 stitches and ending on a decrease and of course we're going to change
50:24
colours again. So I'll meet you at the end of round 21. 13 single crochets, single crochet two
50:30
together or invisible decrease 13 single crochets and then we'll decrease and change colors and i'll
50:36
meet you there so i'm just working my invisible decrease in the last two stitches of round 27
50:43
i'm going to yarn over bring my loop up and then i'm going to change back to color a then we can
50:50
slip stitch to join to finish round 27 and our stitch count at the end of round 27 should be 28 stitches so it really getting that lovely shape now i know it looks like it not egg shaped but once it all stuffed
51:06
this bit will get wider i promise so going into round 28 we're going to chain one
51:13
and we're going to single crochet into the next six stitches and then do our decrease
51:21
We're then going to single crochet into the next 12 stitches, work our decrease and there
51:28
should be 6 stitches remaining to end our round. So carry on with round 28, working your 6 single crochets followed by your decrease
51:43
before you do a further 12 single crochets and decrease and then work your last 6
51:49
meet you back at the end of round 28. So at the end of round 28 we should have a stitch count of
51:57
just 26 stitches and we're done with these colours we're not going to use them again
52:03
I'm going to leave mine to carry all the way up and just hide them inside. So as always we're going
52:09
to go into round 29 we're going to join with a slip stitch and chain one going into round 29 we
52:16
need to single crochet across the next 11 stitches, work our decrease, single crochet across the next
52:23
11 stitches again and work our decrease. So work that and I will meet you at the end
52:30
ready for round 30 where we're nearly ready to finish. So at the end of round 29 we should have
52:37
a stitch count now of just 24 and we're going into round 30. So we're going to start with our chain one
52:46
And then we're going to work one single crochet into the first stitch
52:52
followed by an invisible decrease across the next two, or a single crochet two together
53:00
We're going to repeat that the whole way round. So one single crochet
53:06
followed by an invisible decrease, or a single crochet two together. So continue that the whole way round the pattern and we're going to reduce our stitch count
53:16
significantly by the end of this round. We should now have a stitch count of 16
53:22
I'm going to slip stitch to join ready for round 31 and chain one ready. Now if you've got a little
53:32
bit of space left at the top here like I have you're going to need to shove some extra stuffing in
53:38
because this is going to fill the top of your egg. Just kind of work that in
53:43
push it out of the way of your stitches for now we can fluff that out up once
53:48
we've finished so for round 31 we're going to decrease into each stitch across
53:53
all the stitches around so we're going to literally go from 16 down to 8 I'm
53:58
going to start by making my life easier and just working a single crochet two
54:02
together and then I'm going to work my invisible decreases the rest of the way
54:08
round and this is where it gets a little bit fiddly it's fiddly enough
54:17
normally for me doing these invisible decreases but we're just going to
54:22
repeat that the whole way round and then at the end we're going to fasten off
54:27
and weave in our final tail so just like we've done before we're going to join
54:35
that final round with a slip stitch and we'll do a little chain one already fastened off so we now
54:41
only have a smaller hole now this really is your absolute last chance to add any remaining stuffing
54:49
before we close completely so if you have a bit of space so mine I can probably probably fit
54:57
a little bit more but I think there is most definitely enough stuffing in this giant egg
55:05
So I've got a chunky weight darning needle, I'm just threading that on because to close this hole
55:12
we're just going to weave in and out the front loops of the egg, or the stitch sorry, all the way around
55:26
So just pick up the front loop with your sewing darning needle all the way around back to the beginning of this round
55:35
because when we pull on that the hole disappears it's like magic and it looks
55:47
a great start and a great finish so i'm simply going to insert my hook and my oh my goodness
55:55
this is a needle isn't it? It's been a long filming day around just to make sure that that's secured
56:01
and I go back under the same loop, bring that through and bring it through the loop to create a knot
56:15
The best and funnest thing about fastening off a project like this is how we hide
56:21
this tail end. We're simply going to shove our needle through the stuffing and back out
56:30
so that it... I'm sorry that's Emily snoring again, she's like the world's sleepiest dog
56:35
We're going to do that a few times, so we just reinsert the needle where it came out
56:42
and this will kind of weave the end. Don't lose the end of that needle Fiona
56:46
Weave the end through your stuffing. I need to do it a few times because it's going to be quite
56:51
buried in all of there and then you can just simply snip off the end
56:59
squid and it will be gone this completes our giant easter egg and it is a giant isn't it
57:07
i'm going to make some little friends for it i think definitely to go with it
57:11
using the same pattern and just a different shaped yarn sized yarn so for instance if you
57:16
made this using an Aran weight or a DK weight it literally comes up half the size so nice little
57:24
crocheted friends to go with this giant egg. I really hope you've enjoyed this tutorial it's been
57:30
quite a challenge to get it filmed to make sense but wow what a stunning centerpiece for anyone's
57:37
Easter basket most definitely. Do let me know if you've completed your project you can come and post
57:42
a photo of your project in the community group. I've linked that below in the description
57:48
along with some links to the products that I've used today as well. But thank you so much for joining me and I hope you enjoy your giant Easter egg too
