Single Crochet Stocking Pattern

Each of the crochet stockings pictured above use the same stitch throughout – Single Crochet (UK double crochet)

The stocking is worked from the bottom up in 3 parts:

Toe/foot
Heel
Leg

The single crochet stitch is used throughout, except for the hanging loop which is made using a chain. It’s the perfect crochet beginner friendly easy crochet stocking pattern.

The heel is not created in the traditional “turned heel” which can feel quite advanced if you’ve not worked that technique before; instead, the heel is simply worked in rows.

Easy Crochet Stocking Pattern Information

Materials:

You can use any weight yarn with this crochet pattern – the larger the yarn the bigger the finished size.

35m Aran/Worsted Weight yarn. I used Woman’s Institute Premium Acrylic, 100% acrylic (100 g/3.5 oz. 250m) in 2 shades:
A – White
B – Red
4mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Needle

Amounts of yarn needed for other weights:

Size 3/ DK – 35 yds
Aran/ Worsted – 40 yds
Chunky/ Bulky – 45 yds

Abbreviations

US Terms (UK in brackets)

St(s) – Stitches

Ch – Chain

Sl st – Slip stitch

Sc (Dc) – Single Crochet (Double Crochet)

RS – Right Side

WS – Wrong Side

This pattern is worked in 3 sections:
Toe
Heel
Leg
The Toe and leg sections are worked in a continuous spiral
The heel is worked in rows which are seamed to join.
Beginning Ch 1 DOES NOT count as a stitch.
When working Toe and Leg section is is strongly recommended to use a stitch marker to keep track of 1st stitch when working in continuous rounds.
To minimise colour change while in the round, complete the last YO of the stitch in the new colour and replace the 1st stitch of the round with a slip stitch in the new colour – Jogless Colour Change

Finished Size:

6″ from top of loop to toe when made with DK and 4mm hook

Single Color Easy Crochet Stocking Pattern

Toe (Worked in continuous rounds)

Round 1: Make magic circle, 10 sc in circle. (10 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each around. (20 sc)

Round 3-11: sc in each around. (20 sc) (9 rounds)

Do NOT fasten off, continue to Heel.

Heel (Worked in turned rows)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in next 10, leave remaining sts unworked, turn. (10 sc)

Row 2-6: Ch 1, sc in each across, turn. (10 sc)

Do NOT fasten off.

Seaming

Fold in half, with WS facing, ch 1, working through both layers of Row 6, sl st in each across. (5 sl st)
Fasten off and weave ends

Leg (worked in continuous rounds)

Round 1: With RS facing, join yarn in 1st unworked st after seam, ch 1, working in row ends of Heel and unworked sts of Round 11 of Toe, sc in each st around. (22 sc)

Rounds 2-12: Sc in each around. (22 sc) (11 rounds)

Round 13: Sc in each around to inline with seam, ch 15, sl st to same to form hanging loop.

Fasten off, weave ends.
