I simply love Easter and all that it stands for. From setting up the children’s Easter Cross display during Sunday School, many years ago, to the sight of those smiling daffodils and the buds on the trees bursting for their next season of growing.

The season of re-birth touches all elements of our lives. Decorating and gifting for this holiday is nearly as fun as for Christmas!

The seasonal colours used to represent Springtime feel so bright and full of cheer. Old with those dreary winter greys, and Spring into action with those pastel pinks, yellows and greens!

Crochet Easter Egg made with Bernat Blanket Yarn

When I spotted these colours in my local Hobbycraft store, they shouted Spring to me and I just had to grab some of the colours available.

This is the first time I’ve worked with blanket yarn and it was a joy to work with.

Although I have seen others use it to create supersized toys and Amigurumi projects, in these Spring colours, it struck me that it would be great to create an oversized crochet Easter Egg to create a centerpiece in my Easter display.

I have already made 2 giant crochet eggs from these 3 balls of Bernat Baby Blanket yarn, and I still have enough to create a giant version of my Mini Easter Egg basket – I’m not sure that the egg will fit in the basket though!

One of my pattern testers made this pattern using 10 ply yarn (a worsted/Aran weight yarn) which created an egg half the size of the Easter egg made with super bulky blanket yarn.
