Materials:
- Aran/worsted weight yarn
- I used I used Paintbox Simply Aran 100% Acrylic yarn
- 5mm Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Gauge: 12 sts and 8 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in pattern using a 5mm hook. Use a larger or smaller crochet hook to obtain the correct tension.
Finished Size:
- 7″ x 7″
- 8″ x 8″
How to make this free granny square pattern
Pattern Notes:
- Please read through the entire pattern before beginning, regardless of skill level. Please contact me [email protected]) if help is needed to understand any part of pattern.
- Beginning ch-1 does NOT count as stitch.
- Beginning ch-3 counts as dc. It may be helpful to place st marker in 3rd ch to keep track of that stitch.
- Pattern can be made in 2 sizes 7”(8)” and will be written with larger size st counts in parentheses.
Special Stitches:
Cable – Cable Stitch
- skip 1, dc in next 3
- yo, working around last 3 dc just made, insert hook in skipped, pull loop up to height of dc
- [yo, pull through 2 loops] 2 times
CDc – Crossed Double Crochet
- skip 1, dc in next
- working around last dc made
- dc in skipped
Row 1: Ch 23 (27), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across, turn. (22 (26) sc)
Row 2: RS. Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), cdc across to last, dc in last, turn. (10 (12) cdc, 2 dc)
Row 3: Ch1, sc in each st across. Turn. (22, (26 sc)
Row 4: Ch 3, cable across to last, dc in last, turn. (5 (6) Cables and 2 Dc)
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Rows 6-15 (17): Repeat Rows 2-5, ending on Row 3 (5) repeat.
Fasten off, weave in ends. Block lightly to size as required.
