Crochet Skirt Pattern for Beginners
Crochet a classic A-Line skirt with this beginner friendly crochet pattern. This free crochet pattern can be created without the pockets, but they add a whole extra level of style to this comfort-fit crochet skirt pattern.
Free Crochet Skirt Pattern for Beginners
Create a staple crochet skirt for your wardrobe with the All Buttoned Up Skirt pattern. This beginner friendly pattern has optional pockets to add more detail to this simple skirt pattern.
Making your own crochet clothes doesn’t have to be challenging – it’s all about picking a pattern that is easy enough to recreate.
This free crochet skirt pattern is worked up using basic crochet stitches which increase to create a comfortable fit across the hips – the waist band is added at the end of the project to create a further decrease without impacting on the fit.
The All Buttoned Up Skirt pattern is written for 1 standard length which sits on the knee; it is very easy to increase the length but following the instructions at the end of the Front Panel.
The skirt is created by making 3 panels that are worked in turned rows, from top down. The pattern is beginner friendly as there are only basic stitches used in the skirt – the pockets use a more advanced stitch, but adventurous beginners will still be able to make them.

All Buttoned Up Collection
The collection started with a simple tank top that can be made in a length of your choice and the desire to create other garments that featured the same stitches was hard to resist.
The 2nd pattern to be added to the collection was a form-fitting dress as the texture created by the Open Scallop stitches lends itself well to a light stretch for an easy fit. The dress is created in 3 parts, that are all customisable for the perfect fit.
The All Buttoned Up Skirt only uses the same textured stitches in the pocket detail to help keep it as simple as possible.
This pattern also featured on the Crochet Fashion Week Runway hosted in Atlanta in February 2023, which was styled with Gloriosa Sweater.

How to crochet a skirt
The first thing to do before starting any crochet garment is to check your measurements – click here to find out more about how to measure yourself for the best fit.
This pattern uses the hip measurement to get the best fit. Once you have your measurements, use the size chart below to confirm which size you would like to make.
This skirt is designed with a positive ease of +3″ around the hips to create a slightly loose fit.

Continue to Lining, Joining and Seaming.
Lining of Pockets – Optional
Lining of pockets (optional)
Designer placed Pocket over fabric and cut around to size, creating flap over the top of the Pocket, covering to Row 14, before sewing securely to all inside edges of pocket.
Seaming the Skirt | All Buttoned Up Skirt
Place corresponding pockets on Front Panel and secure with stitch marker, 6 rows down from top of Front Panel, parallel to top of panel – do not sew together.
Place and secure Back Panels with stitch marker, along the edges of the Front Panel, ensuring the straight edges of back panels will meet in middle back of Front Panel.
Using the rows as a guide, sew Back Panels to Front Panel, working through pocket too when reached.
Seaming Continued
Sew the bottom and the other side of the Pocket to the Front Panel. Check each beginning chain is sewn securely.
Sew zip, positioning between Back Panels, in line with the top of the Back Panels.
Seam the remaining stitches under the zip to complete the join of the Back Panels.
Weave in ends.
Continue to Waistband.
