Materials

• Any DK/Size 3 yarn – I used used Hayfield Spirit DK (80% acrylic, 20% wool) 100g 354m/377yds in shade 0408 (Sundown)
• 35-50m per square (estimated maximum of 2700m for all 54 squares to complete square
• 4mm Crochet Hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Gauge

gauge not essential – Use a larger or smaller crochet hook to obtain the correct finished square size.

Finished Size

• each square is designed to be 6″ x 6″

Special Stitches

puff = Puff stitch.

YO, insert into indicated, YO, pull up loop, [YO, insert hook in same, YO, pull up loop] 4 times, YO, pull through all 11 loops on hook, ch 1 to close

How to crochet a puff stitch granny square

Puff Stitch Granny Square Pattern

Round 1: Ch 4, sl st to create ring, working into ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2dc, ch 2, [3dc, ch 2] 3 times, join – 12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps

Round 2: Ch 2 (does not count), dc in same , *dc in each st to corner, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; repeat from * to end, join – 28 dc, 4 ch-2 sps

Round 3: Sl st into next, ch 2, puff in same as ch 2, skip next, puff in next, skip next, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, *[skip next, puff in next] 3 times, skip next, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; repeat from * to last corner, skip next, puff in next, join – 12 puff st, 16 dc, 4 ch-2 sps

Round 4: Ch 2, dc in same as ch 2, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in top of next puff, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, *dc in next 2, dc between post and next puff, [dc in top of next puff, dc in next ch-1 sp] 3 times, dc in next 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; repeat from * to last corner, dc in next 2, dc between post and next puff, dc in top of next puff, dc in next ch-1 sp, join – 60 dc, 4 ch-2 sps

Round 5: Ch 2, puff in same as ch 2, skip next, (puff in next, skip next) 3 times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, *skip next (may be hidden under corner), [puff in next, skip next] 7 times, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner; repeat from * to last corner, skip next, [puff in next, skip next] 3 times, join – 28 puff st, 16 dc, 4 ch-2 sps
