Religious Elements | Jolly Holiday Blanket

When you think of the holidays, we take time to relax, spend time with family and friends, with a focus on feeling warm and safe.

I couldn’t release the Jolly Holiday Blanket without acknowledging just why the Holidays are a thing.

Being from the UK, the focus over the holidays while I was growing up, was on the birth of Christ. I was also brought up in a Christian family and lucky enough, in a multicultural town.

I had friends with all different backgrounds, who embraced joining in Nativity plays and singing carols in the assembly’s held before the Christmas school holiday.

The world is a wonderous place, with people with different beliefs and cultures and I feel lucky to be an observer to all these differences.

The religious elements of the Jolly Holiday Blanket highlight the 3 main holidays held in the same week, and the panels feature 2 images associated with the celebrations:

  • Christmas
  • Hanukkah
  • Kwanzaa

If you haven’t already seen the original panels featured in the Jolly Holiday Blanket, click here to see them.

Each of the filet crochet patterns releasing in these religious elements, are designed to be beginner friendly, encouraging you to fall in love with the filet crochet technique.

All the religious panels use a symmetrical filet crochet chart, which allows both left and right handed crocheters to read the pattern from either direction and achieve the same finished result.

If you’re new to filet crochet, it is a crochet technique that uses stitches and chain spaces to show an image in crochet fabric – click here to learn more about the filet crochet technique.

Whatever your crochet skill level is, each of the filet crochet panels releasing in the Jolly Holiday Blanket, including these religious elements, can be followed using more than just the filet chart. For each filet crochet blanket panel in the Jolly Holiday Blanket CAL, you’ll find, free to view on the website:

  • filet crochet chart
  • written version of the chart
  • FULL written pattern with no need to refer to the chart

Even if you are new to the fillet crochet technique, all the ways to follow the pattern will be available for you to ensure you can complete your blanket with confidence.
