Puff Stitch – How to Crochet
Learn how to crochet a puff stitch with this video and photo tutorial. The puff stitch is a great way to add lots of texture in your crochet projects. The puff stitch is a variant of the Treble crochet stitch which forms big bobbles and great texture! They can be used to spell out letters, or create motifs in your projects.
How to crochet Puff Stitch (Puff)
They can take a bit of practice to work quickly, as you’ll pull your yarn through a number of loops at the same time to create the puff stitch, but they are worth the practice!
Grab any yarn you have to hand and the recommended hook size on the yarn band.
Puff Stitch – Stitch Multiple

Puff
- Yarn over hook and insert into stitch
- Yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook)
- Yarn over hook and draw up a loop (5 loops on hook)
- Repeat above step another 3 more times (11 loops on hook)
- Yarn over and pull through all 11 loops
Pattern Notes
If you are using this stitch in a pattern, take a moment to check the special stitches to confirm how many times you should yarn over and bring up a loop, as the designer will specify.
The more times you yarn over, before completing the stitch, the bigger the puff stitch will be.

Abbreviations – US Terms
Row 1: Ch 12, sc in 2nd from hook and each across, turn – 11 dc
Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count), sc in same as ch 1, puff in next, *sc in next, Puff in next; repeat from * to last, sc in last. turn – (5 puff, 6 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc same and each across, turn – 11 sc
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
