The crochet cable stitch is one of those go to stitches for when you need an interesting crochet fabric. It is a simple 2 row repeat which introduces all the techniques you need to work crossed stitches in various other crochet stitches.

This crochet tutorial will show step by step how to crochet the cable stitch. It’s worked using the double crochet stitch (UK treble) and crossing behind a group of stitches to create the cable.

You can use any yarn with the hook size as recommended on the yarn band.
How to Crochet the Crochet Cable Stitch
The Crochet Cable Stitch Pattern is worked in multiples of 4 stitches, plus 2, plus 1 for the foundation row
- Chain multiples of 4 plus 2, plus 1.
- In this tutorial we will make a chain of 23 to start our swatch and create 5 crochet cables.

Abbreviations Used:
Ch Chain
Sc (Dc) Single Crochet (Double crochet)
Dc (Tr) Double Crochet (Treble Crochet
Special Stitches – Crochet Cable Stitch
- Skip the next stitch
- Dc into next 3 stitches
- Yarn over, insert hook into skipped stitch
- Pull up loop to height of Dc
- (Yarn over, pull through two loops), twice to complete stitch
Row 1: Crochet Cable Stitch
Ch23
Row 1: Dc in 2nd from hook, Dc into each Ch across. (22)
Row 2: Ch3 (Count as Tr), Cable (skip next St, Tr in next 3 Sts, Tr in skipped Stitch), Cable across row to last St, Tr in last St. Turn. (5 Cables and 2 Dc)
Row 2: Ch3 (counts as Dc)
Skip next St,
Dc in next 3 Ch,
Yarn over, insert hook to skipped stitch
Yarn over and pull up loop
pull up loop to height of Dc
Yarn over, pull through, twice
to complete stitch.

Row 3: Ch1 (does not count as stitch), Dc into each stitch across. Turn. (22)
