Learn how to crochet a chevron crochet blanket with this free crochet pattern. The ever popular chevron stitch (also known as the crochet ripple stitch) creates a zig zag crochet effect is simple to make as it only uses the US Double Crochet stitch. Read on for the full pattern and a video tutorial to make your own chevron crochet blanket.

Breezy Chevron Crochet Blanket | Free Crochet Pattern

The crochet chevron stitch pattern comes in many forms, but this is the simplest to work as it creates the zig zag pattern using only the basic Double Crochet stitch.

It's the way the stitches are increased and decreased that creates the peaks (points) and troughs (dips) that creates the ripple and crochet zig zag effect.

This pattern is a perfect beginner crochet blanket pattern as the same row is repeated throughout the pattern and the edging is optional.

The chevron crochet pattern really comes to life with the colours that it is made in. Here are some other ideas of colours that you can choose to work this pattern with:

  • Monochrome Magic - create a stunning monochrome blanket with shades of black, white and grey
  • Pretty Pastels - keep it light and breezy with light pinks, blues and creams like the blanket pictured
  • Rainbow Bright - choose all 7 colours of the rainbow to create a blanket that should have a pot of gold at the end of it

The joy of this chevron crochet blanket pattern is that it can be worked using any weight of yarn and the size can be easily adjusted to whatever you need to make. For more information on traditional blanket sizes, see my Crochet Blanket Size Chart.

The pattern below is to create a finished size of 45" x 63" blanket. If you want to make a different size, use the stitch multiple given below to create the width of chain needed before starting your blanket then repeat the rows until you've reached the length you need.

I am a big fan of the chevron stitch and have featured the design in a number of designs. Here are just some of my other chevron patterns to inspire you:

These patterns use variations of the chevron stitch and I love how these variations create different looks yet retains the zig zag look of the chevron.
